NEWBURGH — The Millbrook Blazers (19-2) move another step closer to back to the NYS Class C Championship with a 60-44 win over Haldane in the regional semifinal.
After leading by as many as 13 points in the first quarter, Millbrook led by only four points in the second quarter. They outscored the Blue Devils 10-3 in the final two minutes to secure a 28-18 halftime lead.
“We came out sluggish and we weren’t playing our best,” said junior forward Erin Fox. “After halftime, we came out strong and didn’t let them back in the game.”

The defending NYS Class C champion Millbrook aren’t taking any games for granted. “We need to start the game with a lot more pace and limit some turnovers,” added Fox. “We made some bad decisions with the ball tonight, and we’ll need to take better care of the ball going forward.”
Millbrook advances to the Class C regional final versus Pierson / Bridgehampton next Saturday at SUNY New Paltz at 1:30 p.m.
Marlboro seemed to be down-and-out in the first quarter of the Class B regional semifinal versus Section 1 powerhouse Irvington.
Shots weren’t falling, and loose balls were falling into the hands of Irvington players. The Dukes trailed 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Then came a run.
Senior guard Kali Schindler electrified the gymnasium with 3 three-pointers and all of a sudden, Marlboro had a 20-19 lead with three minutes left in the second quarter.
After a back-and-forth third quarter — which included Erin Lofaro scoring her 1,000th point — Marlboro held onto a 45-43 lead.
Then came the bad stuff.
Marlboro was outscored 23-5 in the fourth quarter and lost 66-50 to the No. 3 team in Class B.
Irvington: Abby Conklin 27 points; Grace Thybulle 17 points, 16 rebounds.
Marlboro: Liz Lofaro 13 points, 3 rebounds; Erin Lofaro 12 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks; Kali Schindler 12 points.
Irvington advances to the Class B regional final vs. the winner of Carle Place vs. Mattituck, Saturday at Pace University.
