Q&A with Erin Smith

Name: Erin Smith

School & Grade: Goshen junior

Height & Position: 5-foot-3 point guard

Many Section 9 girls basketball players and coaches would deem Erin the best point guard in the section. Through 10 games, she’s averaging 18 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game and 3 steals per game. She’s led the Gladiators to a 5-5 record so far this season. 


What are you able to do best on the court? 

   “On the court, I think I am able to use my handle and court vision best, it definitely adds another level to my game especially as a soul point guard.”

What’s one thing about your varsity basketball team that’s different from any other team you’ve been on?

   “My varsity team is probably one of the most disciplined defensive teams in Section 9. Our help ‘D’ is something you don’t see on a lot of teams. Our defensive game is really strong.”

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal at?

   “I would for sure win an Olympic Medal for organizing, I feel the need to organize everything if it’s not in perfect order.”

Favorite NBA player?

   “Im gonna throw the WNBA in there for this one, 100% Moriah Jefferson,” (ex Uconn guard, currently plays for Las Vegas Aces).

What takes up too much of your time?

   “Social media probably takes up too much of my time, it can be addicting!”

What’s the best way to start the day?

   “The best way to start the day is with a huge meal…Im talking eggs, bacon, toast, fruit…everything.”

Who’s your go to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?

   “Sam Smith or Drake  depending on the mood.”

What’s your favorite movie?

   “My favorite movie is Moana.”

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives? 

   “Everyone should try Five Guys at least once in their lives!”
