Q&A with Katelyn McCann

Name: Katelyn McCann

School & Grade: Burke Catholic senior

Height & Position: 5-foot-4 guard

McCann played in four games this season before injuring her middle-finger in a game against Goshen, causing her to miss three weeks. She’s one of the top three-point shooters in Section 9 and holds the Burke Catholic record for the most three-pointers in a game with seven. McCann returns to the floor tonight against Fallsburg.


What are you able to do best on the court?

   “I understand what I need to do to help my team succeed. I believe that I am able to shoot the ball well. I also love learning the game and helping my teammates learn the game. Making them aware of the clock, who has fouls, offensive sets that will work against the opponents, defense and the little things to make our team succeed.”

What’s one thing about your varsity basketball team that’s different from any other team you’ve been on?

   “We are able to talk about anything and everything no matter if it’s high school drama, a difficult situation or an obstacle during our season, our team has extremely good communication skills which I feel carries onto the basketball court.”

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal at?

   “Spike ball”

Favorite NBA player?

   “Kyrie Irving definitely. He’s an all-around great player.”

What takes up too much of your time?


What’s the best way to start the day?

   “Having a good shooting session before school.”

Who’s your go to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?

   “Bruce Springsteen”

What’s your favorite movie?

   A Few Good Men

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

   “I’m still trying to figure that out.”
